Computer games have become mainstream media, with nett earnings even surpassing that of the film industry. Production values are very high and costs of development are rising partly due to heavy demand, lack of specialized and qualified skilled workers and the pressure to deliver more and more. Hence, there is a need for people who are learned in the ways of game development with very specialized fields of studies. The games industry spans even to sister areas like serious games, casual games, mobile games, simulations and virtual reality. It comes as no surprise then that more and more companies are outsourcing their work to countries such as Malaysia due to lower costs and high quality outputs.

The BA (Hons) in Games Art is a programme specially developed with a comprehensive approach to developing the right mindsets for a job in the global games industry, specifically in the area of arts. The games art graduate will take away with them the right skillsets to develop world-class game assets and art expected from the game designers and ones that the game programmers will have no problem integrating in their specific game engines. The programme is designed to be strongly practical and industry-oriented in character. Students explore their own creative vision within the context of this diverse, multi-disciplinary medium with the aim of shaping and developing the promising regional industry. Their understanding of industry will be enhanced through involvement in the semester long internship, improving their potential for eventual employment upon graduation.

The outline of the programme concentrates on all stages of the production process similar to the workflow practised by professionals from related industries. Students will undergo a series of hands-on professional training to develop their skills in an industry based learning system.
