Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Digital Communication Design [KP/JPS (KA6444) 01/10] As ever increasing higher definition technologies proliferate and the number of sophisticated viewing audiences continues to increase, there is an ever-growing demand for specialists in motion graphics and broadcast design. Digital Communication Design is a combination of graphic design, filmmaking, animation, motion graphics and sound to create attention grabbing visuals that inform and entertain. This dynamic medium of communication design will extend its reach into film and television, the Internet, electronic games and mobile technologies. This course provides graduates with the knowledge to use digital compositing techniques to create layered and textural landscapes that engage both the mind and the emotions and to build a seamless presentation that is both visually arresting and commercially effective. These new breeds of innovative, talented and disciplined motion graphics designers are multi-tasked specialists who are trained in the use of 3D animation, visual effects, typography, video and interactive arts. This course also deals with both animated graphics skills and creative multimedia and simultaneously engages with the critical issues involved in such production. Graduates will be trained in the various stages of production and post-production processes and learn how to be part of a creative team. Start-to-finish projects enable students to learn important conceptualisation and execution skills. The Bachelors of Digital Communication Design introduces students to multiple areas of new media of digital communication design by allowing them to develop more specialised skills in chosen areas of interest and professional development. More importantly, it does this with its key emphasis on communication skills and techniques. All this is contextualised by providing a foundation of key principles of design. Further understanding is provided through a more theoretical understanding of the impact, meaning and implications of new media in modern communication activities and processes.
